This Sunday

Join us on Sunday 29th March for Palm Sunday

We will be gathering at 10:20AM, before setting off on a procession from the Church Hall around the block and back to the church for our service (those who need to go slowly or who'd prefer a shorter walk can just cross the churchyard).

The Palm Sunday procession recalls the story of Jesus' last visit to Jerusalem and when, as he arrived into the city, the crowds pulled down branches from the palm trees and used them to greet him like a king. They shouted "HOSANNAH!" (which means "save us!") and "Blessed is the King!". However, only a few days later, Jesus was executed—not as a king, but as a criminal.

This coming week is known in the church as Holy Week. It is the last week of Lent and is the period in which we particularly remember the events that led up to Jesus' trial and execution, and prepare ourselves to celebrate Easter. See our list of Holy Week services below.

Holy Week

We have services each day during Holy Week as we remember together the last week of Jesus' ministry.

We will think about how when he told them he would die, his male disciples refused to believe him; about how when he was scared and asked them to keep watch while he prayed, they fell asleep; about how when he was arrested, they first wanted to fight to protect him but later tried to pretend they didn't know him; about how when he was given an unfair trial, condemned, tortured, and led away to be executed, a kind stranger carried his cross for him; and about how when he died his followers thought their friend was gone and the movement that he'd begun was over.
